Custom paint job

The custom black and gold paint job is certainly eye-catching. The bespoke patterns have been seen on previous bikes ridden by Wiggins, including his Hour Record Pinarello Bolide and the tribute road bike that was on display at the Bike Rooms.34

Wiggins s saddle of choice is the Fizik Arione with carbon braided rails. It looks to have the same shape as the triathlon-specific Arione Tri K1 which provides more padding than some high end saddles but saves weight with carbon oval rails.

Watch: First look at SRAM Red eTap wireless groupset

SRAM Red eTap wireless groupset

Aside from the intricate paint job, Wiggins s custom Dogma F8 was equipped with the new SRAM Red eTap electronic groupset rather than the Dura-Ace Di2 set up he rode at Team Sky6. SRAM claims that in addition to the the shifting of the Red eTap being better than other electronic groupsets, the system as a whole is also lighter.

SRAM Red eTap does not use DoubleTap (Photo: Jones)

SRAM s groupsets normally use its DoubleTap system, however Red eTap will be doing away with this. DoubleTap involves changing gear with only one paddle behind the brake which is pushed inwards one notch to shift up and two notches to shift down.

The eTap groupset retains only one shifter behind the brake, but the right shifter will shift up a gear with the rear derailleur, and the left shifter to shift down. You can also shift through multiple cogs by holding the lever down. To change between chainrings you need to press both levers simultaneously, the system will then move the chain to the other chainring.

Despite all of the above, the most impressive thing about the new SRAM electronic groupset is that it is wireless. Other electronic groupsets such as Shimano Di2 and Campagnolo EPS use wires to connect the shifters to the derailleurs. However, Red eTap pairs the shifters with the derailleurs electronically.

Nearly all of the pro peloton use power meters in both training and racing. While Team Sky use the Stages power meters8 Bradley Wiggins has opted for SRM on his Team Wiggins Dogma F8. For many the Pinarello Dogma F8 is already a top quality racing bike which stands out from the crowd.

Wiggins obviously felt it needed a little something extra .
