They will be battling it out on the pitch in the Rugby World Cup2 – but will only need to wrestle with pillow menus back at their hotels. These are the five-star lodgings that the teams of England, Ireland, Wales, France, Italy, South Africa and New Zealand will be staying at. Each one is brimming with luxury and top-end facilities, though they may well be too tired to take advantage of them.

Rooms cost from 235 at the five-star Surrey hotel, which will house the team ahead of their three fixtures at Twickenham

England – Pennyhill Park, Surrey

England have three Pool A fixtures at Twickenham and have opted for five-star accommodation near to their Surrey training base. The players will be in the lap of luxury at Pennyhill Park. Each room has hand-made mattresses and a special pillow menu, so sleep shouldn’t be a problem.

Dining options come in the form of two award-winning restaurants, The Latymer, headed by Michelin-Starred chef Michael Wignall, and the vibrant Brasserie. Following this, they can unwind in the hotel’s spa, which boasts outdoor pools and jacuzzis.

Ireland – Celtic Manor, Newport

Rooms start at 144 and the hotel’s facilities include six restaurants, a tranquil spa and even a 54-hole golf course

Ireland have opted for a secluded hotel close to their training base in Newport to get some rest and relaxation ahead of their game against France in Cardiff on October 11. The team will stay at Celtic Manor Resort, which has over 400 rooms and a whopping six restaurants.

No doubt the Irish team will have other matters on their mind, but there is the option of a round of golf at a 54-hole course – and laser combat. If tranquillity is what they require, spa treatments and fishing are available.

South Africa and New Zealand – Lensbury Resort, Middlesex

The two teams (pictured are World Cup holders New Zealand) will be able to take advantage of the all-weather rugby pitch, along with a gym tailored to the players’ requirements

King-sized beds will await both South Africa and World Cup holders New Zealand at the Lensbury Resort in Middlesex. Bespoke 70kg dumbbells have reportedly been shipped in for 6ft 9 Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth – and apparently the All Blacks will be served almost 300 eggs every morning.

Of course, there is an all-weather rugby pitch so the teams can practice ahead of their fixtures at Wembley Stadium and the Olympic Stadium.

Italy Brooklands, Surrey

Ahead of their games against France and Ireland at Twickenham and the Olympic Stadium, Italy are staying at the spacious Brooklands hotel in Cobham, Surrey. Wales and France will be checking in to the four-star Vale Resort in Glamorgan, which appropriately features seven IRB standard rugby training pitches, an indoor training arena and cryotherapy chambers

Two teams will be sharing the Vale Resort in Glamorgan ahead of matches at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. The four-star resort features seven IRB standard rugby training pitches, an indoor training arena and cryotherapy chambers. Should there be a cause for celebration, players can head to the Salamanza Champagne Bar, relax in the spa, or dine in the AA rosette-awarded Vale Grill.
