Hotel prices in Cardiff1 during the forthcoming Rugby World Cup2 have increased by up to 1,100% with rooms costing as much as 1,800 a night. The price hikes in the Welsh capital with rooms costing an average of more than 1,000 a night when the Millennium Stadium3 hosts a quarter final on October 17 were described as the most extreme we have ever reported for an event in the UK by hotel search website Trivago, which researched prices across all host cities. The next five most expensive nights are also all in Cardiff including the France v Ireland showdown on October 11, when an average stay costs 927, and the second quarter final on October 18 where the average cost of a room for the night is 630.

After Cardiff the next most expensive venues to stay are Brighton and London though even the average 334 cost of a London hotel room on the night of the final is only a fraction of the highest average price in Cardiff.

For the football World Cup in Brazil last year hotel prices peaked at an average of 328, with a maximum increase of 243%.
