Donegal hotel receives Quality of Excellence Award

The Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Donegal was recently presented with the InterContinental Hotel Group 2015 Quality of Excellence Award, an honor presented to only the top 2 percent of hotels globally.

The honor is a tribute to our entire staff who work tirelessly ensuring we have a great hotel that guests love, said Timothy Pisula, general manager of the hotel. We are grateful of their efforts as they are the reason we are the best lodging value in the heart of the Laurel Highlands. The 73-room facility, which opened in July 2011, was honored earlier this month at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco.

I was pleased to honor the Donegal Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Express and Suites with the Quality Excellence Award, said Elise Maalouf, chief executive officer of IHG The Americas.

Winners in this category demonstrate the highest standards in product quality, hotel operation and customer satisfaction. We’re very proud that the Discount Holidays © Holiday inn Express and Suites of Donegal, Pa., is part of the IHG family, she said. The hotel’s overall satisfaction rating of superior quality is determined by guest surveys, semi-annual inspections, timely internal system problem solving and operation performance, Pisula said.

Last year, the facility welcomed more than 30,000 guests, and Pisula said they are hoping for an increase of at least 2,000 by the end of this year.

We want every guest to be happy and comfortable when the stay with us, said Ashley Painter, a guest service representative at the hotel.

We want them to come back and stay again, she said. The hotel has an impressive amount of return guests, Painter added. Pisula said his crew’s attention to fine detail and housekeeping is part of what guests comment on when staying at the facility.

Mt. Pleasant Township residents Larry and Tammy Liprando co-own the establishment with John and Lisa Toohey in a partnership with Last Frontier, LLC.

Their vision was to create a higher standard of the Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn brand, Pisula said. Both families are committed to maintaining superior quality and excellent customer service. According to Pisula, the Liprandos were the visionaries behind the theme and decorum for the hotel, which is unlike any other Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn.

Tammy is our interior designer, he said. She comes in seasonally to completely redo our decorum, and she does such a great job with it.

Her work is invaluable. The hotel currently is decorated with fall mums and autumn decor. Come winter, Santa is known to visit guests.

Visitors are impressed by quality amenities, such as a heated pool and hot tub, an air-conditioned gym, free use of a washer and dryer, and more than 14 breakfast options, Pisula said. A standard Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn is required to carry five to seven options, he added. The facility, which hosts guests from across both the country and the world, is eager to support local businesses in the Laurel Highlands and carries tickets for Idlewild Park, Living Treasures Animal Park, Caddie Shak Family Fun Center, Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob.

Additional awards presented to the hotel include the 2013 Newcomer of the Year Award from IHG, a 2014 certificate of excellence from Trip Advisor and two AAA Diamond Ratings.

Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Express and Suites of Donegal is a special place, and we really love it, Pisula said. We have a good time, and we have a wonderful management team. We look forward to quality excellence for many years to come. Cami DiBattista is a contributing writer for Trib Total Media.
