Reaching three-figure speeds isn t uncommon for riders descending mountains, but Bob Jungels (Ettix-Quick Step1) hit the century on a short descent in his solo win at the Tour of Oman2. Jungels powered away from the select group he found himself in in the last three kilometres, using his phenomenal time trialling ability to solo to the line. The Luxembourg champion s Strava statistics3 show the phenomenal power he put down as he got his head down and sped to the line, averaging over 350W for the last three kilometres.

As he crested the final climb travelling at over 50kph, Jungels then sped away from his chasers, reaching 101.2kph on the steep, but not technical, descent, even though he wasn t pedalling for much of it.

Unsurprisingly, Jungels claimed the KoM on the Strava segment of the descent named Fat Freddy s Drop beating BMC4 s Marcus Burghardt.
