Clarkson has revealed the Amazon Prime version of Top Gear will be called The Grand Tour, or GT for short. Not TG. Jezza tweeted: “Start the smoke. We have a name.

“So, the Grand Tour (GT for short) will come from a tent, which we will put up in a different location every week. Your town?”

In a statement, he added: “Thing is, we ll be travelling the world hosting each episode in a different country, from a giant tent. It s a sort of grand tour , if you like. So we ve decided to call it The Grand Tour.”

However, James May was less enthusiastic, tweeting: “I still think Nigel was a better name.”

Richard Hammond tweeted: We’ve got a name. And it was bleeding obvious cos it’s what we’re doing: coming from a different place every week.

The trio previously struggled finding a name as they were forbidden from choosing any names remotely similar to Top Gear by lawyers.

The series is due to start on Amazon Prime in Autumn.

NEW PASTURES: Jeremy was signed to Amazon following his ‘fracas’ with a BBC producer

The former Top Gear stars signed to Amazon Prime following Jeremy Clarkson’s sacking by the Beeb. Top Gear will continue on the BBC, but will now be fronted by Chris Evans and Matt Le Blanc. The odd couple will be joined by Sabine Schmitz, Eddie Jordan, Chris Harris, Rory Reid and the Stig.
