New hotel is planned for north Macon

A new hotel with 93 rooms is planned on Bass Road in north Macon. Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Express & Suites is in the works for 1540 Bass Road, according to a conditional-use application filed with the Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission. The permit would allow the hotel to be built in a 79.34-acre office park adjacent to the Homewood Suites By Hilton Macon-North. The new 54,233-square-foot hotel would sit on nearly 4 acres. The four-story building will feature a swimming pool and fitness center as well as other amenities, according to the commission s staff report.

It would employ about 20 workers, but only eight on the site at any one time. The hotel s property is bounded by Interstate 75, Bass Road and the Providence subdivision.

Staff does not anticipate any adverse impacts to the comprehensive land development plan from the proposed use, the staff report said. As presented, the development seems to be in harmony with the surrounding properties. Homewood Suites, which is located south of the proposed development, was approved in 2007.

The application for the new hotel is expected to be discussed at the commission s meeting beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the 10th floor conference room, Willie C. Hill Government Center Annex, 682 Cherry Street. Other items on the agenda are:
