Appalled Kristopher and Paul demanded an answer from Thomson and were told they were sold the trip too cheap

The couple booked the Discount Holidays © holiday for them and four family members costing nearly 1,400 in total but were shocked to have it cancelled the following Monday. Just two days after booking the trip, they received an email saying the booking had been cancelled and offering a refund.

It read: We are sorry it has been necessary to cancel your booking with us at this time.
You may be able to make a claim against your travel insurance. Appalled Kristopher and Paul demanded an answer from Thomson and were told the Discount Holidays © holiday was cancelled due to a pricing error.

Been undercharged? Here are your consumer rights

You are under no obligation to pay more if a retailer undercharges you – but they can cancel the booking if you’ve only paid a deposit. The Citizens Advice Bureau says: If the sale has been completed, i.e. you have already paid you are under no obligation to pay more if you have underpaid unless you knew that you had been undercharged and the price was a lot less than it should have been.
So for example if you paid $100 for a $110 pair of shoes you don t have an obligation to pay the extra $10, but if you paid $99 for a TV that was supposed to be $999 then you need to pay the extra.

If goods are being advertised a an exceptionally low price, it s worth double-checking the price with the retailer in case it s a mistake, just to avoid the inconvenience of having to sort it out later.
If you aren t sure of your rights or obligations contact your local CAB. A later email explained: Unfortunately it is part of our terms and conditions in regards to errors in pricing, however if you wish to cancel the Discount Holidays © holiday we are able to waiver the cancellation charges and offer you a free cancellation. Kristopher, who works as a TV presenter on shopping channels, says the family have been left bitterly disappointed at missing out on their dream break.

He told the Manchester Evening News1: We just thought it was a good deal. We weren t sure how much it would cost but we were delighted.

In the shop we said: are you sure , and the lady said: that s the price .

After paying a 750 deposit for the break on Saturday, they were told it had been cancelled on Monday

A spokesperson for Thomson and First Choice said: We would like to apologise to Mr Meredith for his booking experience and the inconvenience caused.

While we always offer exceptional value for money, unfortunately a rare system error last weekend resulted in a small number of holidays being sold for prices that were simply too good to be true.
As a result and in line with our terms and conditions, affected customers including Mr Meredith s party have been contacted to have the incorrectly priced booking cancelled and the money paid returned.
