Miller was told the hotel was full when he tried to check into the hotel at Fisherman’s Wharf on Sunday night. He returned hours later and knocked on the wrong door, allegedly attacking a father and son who were staying inside, according to sources cited by KTVU. The 70-year-old was punched in the face and broke several bones after he tried to help his son, the news station reported.

They were both hospitalized. Miller, who posted a photo of himself and two friends at a bar on his Instagram on Sunday afternoon, reportedly fled the scene. He was arrested and charged with elder abuse, battery, assault, and making criminal threats, according to ABC.

The 49ers acknowledged ‘the media report regarding Bruce Miller’ before issuing a tweet that announced his release. In 2015, Miller underwent a court-mandated course on domestic violence after he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor disturbing the peace. He was accused of shoving his then-fiancee during an argument.

Miller was a seventh-round draft pick for the 49ers in 2011.
