I live on a narrowboat and bought this to protect those things I want to have on my hatch while it is raining. Maps. My Nicholsons guide books. Copied/printed bits of navigating info. My tablet with a moving map of the canal. For that I have found that it works well, very well. So, why only 4 stars? Well, I guess I am getting “picky” in my old age. First, it is a very nicely made piece of equipment, obviously made with good quality materials, and with care and attention to detail (but see below re. a user guide). The plastic is tough, and it’s great to have two transparent sides (sounds obvious, but not a feature all map cases have). The waterproofing is exceptional and as long as it’s not left floating in the canal or a puddle, or opened in the rain, or opened carelessly when it has water/rain drops on it (always a pain to get the last bits of moisture out of a waterproof bag!) it’ll protect all your paper stuff, and more. So, the “but” bits. Well, it’s maybe not as big as you expected. Measure your bits of paper and maps well. The transparent window is 225 mm X 355 mm so it’ll easily fit A4. But it won’t necessarily fit all your folded maps. Having said that, it fits my Nicholsons guides perfectly. The irritating detail about the window is that on each border — outside the clear area — it has a 25 mm “dead” zone where there is an opaque border. The irritation is that the edge of anything in the case will inevitably slip into this “dead zone” at some time of the day and thus become impossible to read as you can’t see it!! And isn’t it always the case that your destination is on the edge of the map/sheet? OK, you can shake the case to realign it, but to me that is an irritation. Then — and as you can see in the item’s photos — there is a big black company logo smack on the bottom right of one side, all over whatever is underneath!! Why? There is already a cloth name tag? Whoever thought that was a good idea, to cover maybe important map data under a black blob? The case can be carried open or folded in half or rolled. The carrying strap is skinny but adequate. Mind you, there are two bits of Velcro with a function I haven’t yet worked out. Another “irritation” — sounds daft maybe, but I wish this had had a “How to Use This Case” guide included. Now I am going to be annoyed until I can work out what those Velcro bits are for 😉 But, when all is said and done this is high quality kit, and if my gripes that lost it one star don’t bother you buy it!

The Aqua-Quest is of much more rugged construction than cheaper map cases, and looks to be more versatile and weatherproof.
