Mountaintop 40L Lightweight Daypack Camping Backpack,Travel Daypack, Casual Backpack, School Backpack for Outdoor Sport

Review from Jeannie’s Reviews on wordpress.com

Excellent value hiking bag. This is made of a tough, water resistant nylon, exactly what you need out hiking. Bags need to stand up to branches catching in the fabric, and a huge tear isn’t what you want. Likewise with the UK weather default setting being rain….it needs to be resistant if you aren’t to get soggy picnics and spare clothes. I’m really not sure about the bladder hydration system – I’d rather carry a few plastic bottles of water, same weight and water is sterile and fresh…

Its got what seems like 101 different pockets and compartments, good for keeping items separate and having essentials like phone and keys quick to hand. Last thing you need as you return to car for instance, in the pouring rain, is to be fumbling in the main compartment among clothes and everything else to find keys. There’s a handy zip pocket on the waistband for those.
The mesh side pockets are excellent for drinks bottles, and the zipped front pockets perfect for keeping maps etc. The straps are well padded and spread the load comfortable, something that’s important if you’re hiking long distances, or cycling, and the part that goes over back is also padded. Its roomy enough to use as a weekend bag too if you’re just going for a casual country stay, and easier than dragging a suitcase around.

“WARRANTY- Includes 90 days limited manufacturer¡Â¯s warrant”  This part bothers me – two reasons. 1) isn’t the manufacturer confident in their product under normal usage? 90 days isn’t long, especially if this only gets occasisonal weekend use.
    2) UK law gives a statutory 1 year warranty. Legal rights cannot be overridden, but this 90 days claim may discourage people from taking action.
I’ve dropped a star from my rating for this reason.

     Stars: Four, good value backpack

    An excellent 40L Rucksack, 11 Aug. 2016

    Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I purchased this daypack on the basis of other reviews and I am not disappointed. Its lightweight but sturdy and very adaptable. I also like the colour (maroon with grey trim) which surprisingly is a few pounds cheaper than most other colours.

I wanted a pack I can use for some walking tours but mainly for day trips out. This pack is a reasonable compromise with plenty of space in 3 main “pockets” and allows me to take a laptop in comfort and safety when required and/or I can stuff it with maps, clothes and food etc!

All is well finished with sturdy seams, internal pockets and very good quality zips. I’ve used it in a couple of downpours and, thus far, its been 100% waterproof (so no need for an additional cover).

The small waistband pocket is also very useful for keys etc.

Apart from the base, the material itself is quite lightweight, particularly when compared with a similar size Karrimor rucksack my wife has. However, the Karrimor bag was over twice the price I paid (£35 – I assume no one ever pays the full RRP!) and the Karrimor is specialised for hiking / camping rather than day-packing. Given the intended use for this bag, it seems more than strong enough and importantly is much lighter and versatile. After some weeks use its still as good as new and I’m expecting it to have a long and useful life!

I’m not sure I’ll be using the water “bladder” facility when there are 2 very adequate water bottle pockets – which seem more convenient and hygienic to me!

To summarise, this pack compares well with others with a similar intended use. ie. A lightweight daypack. I’m not sure I would pay the full £83 RRP but the Amazon price is very reasonable for what you get. Indeed, quality is as good as, say, similarly priced but smaller Berghaus items.

My only problem is that my daughter likes the bag so much she keeps on trying to steal it and take it to university! Atleast I now have a good idea for her next birthday prezzie….

Finally, this bag is sent by Amazon in an enormous cardboard box. This seems a needless waste and, it means one cannot use click & collect for this item as its too big. ie. It must be delivered to your home address. That’s daft – its not as though this is a fragile item!
