Imagine you turn up to a 10mi time trial and you see a chap riding a state-of-the-art Cervelo in a full Team Wiggins1 skinsuit with rainbow stripes round the sleeves. It s either an exceptionally keen amateur, or the man himself. On Tuesday night it was the latter as Sir Bradley Wiggins2 turned up to the D10/1 event in Bickerstaffe, much to the amazement of the regulars.

Froome: I got over doping criticism because I have nothing to hide

Chris Froome also says Mikel Landa could ride with him at the 2016 Tour de France, but there are many other strong riders to challenge him for places

Froome: I Got Over Doping Criticism Because I Have Nothing To Hide

Chris Froome says he should have taken some of the doping suspicion angled at him at the Tour de France1 as praise for his performance, but admits it was hard to face such vocal abuse. Media, including former rider Laurent Jalabert2 on French television, questioned the plausibility of Froome s performances after his power data from a stage of the 2013 Tour came to light. Froome vehemently denies the accusations but he and his Team Sky teammates suffered verbal and physical abuse along the route of the Tour and the Brit was forced to speak out a number of times3.

There are times I ve come to think that I should take such suspicion as praise for my performance, but certainly I did not. I had to answer many questions about these issues when I was yellow, he told Spanish newspaper AS.4

Sometimes it s frustrating and I think in the Tour it was one of the hardest things that I had to face, but I got over it because I had nothing to hide.

While Richie Porte has departed to join BMC5, Team Sky have found a replacement in Spaniard Michel Landa, who transfers from Astana

Froome believes the 25-year-old has the ability to lead Sky at big races like the Giro d Italia, where Landa finished second this year6, but says he might also form part of his team at the Tour de France in July.

I m sure he is qualified to lead the team and will have to take that role on many occasions in the season. Last year was confirmation to show what he can do in a very prestigious race, he added.

It s a possibility that he will ride the Tour, but there are many strong riders at Sky who could be in the Tour team. As for the other major races, it depends on many factors. If he s in the line-up then of course he will be very important.

Family ‘forced’ to sleep on broken sofa bed next to black mould and SLUGS after Pontins ‘downgrades’ their holiday stay

A family’s Discount Holidays © holiday turned into the trip from hell after a downgrade left them sleeping with slugs. Elizanne Morris, 31, visited the Brean Sands Discount Holidays © Holiday Park in Somerset with her partner Jamie Hayles and their three-year-old son Tommy in July. She was ‘disgusted’ to find that her 400 ‘two-bedroom’ room had been swapped for a one bedroom, with mould, cracks, a bunk-bed and single bed, without notice.

Slugs we found slithering up the walls and over black mould which was behind furniture in the apartment

The couple say they were forced to sleep on a sofa bed which had a hole underneath and was damaged

The couple, who had travelled two and a half hours from their home in Portsmouth, claim they were then forced to sleep on a broken sofa bed with a bent leg after being provided with one double duvet cover between them – despite the fact they had been given separate beds. After speaking with reception, she was informed that the downgrade was due to flooding in more than 20 of the rooms – however despite the 200 difference in price, Ms Morris claims Pontins refused to reimburse the difference. The family also requested to be moved into a two-bedroom room which they had identified to be vacant, however claim hotel staff told them the room was not available due to water damage.

During the holiday, the family we also forced to file a police report after their locker was broken into through a hole in the one above and 50 was stolen while they used the swimming pool. Towards the end of the holiday, Ms Morris said she was left ‘horrified’ when a maintenance man fixing the door to the two-bedroom apartment the family had requested to be moved to, informed her that the room in fact had no water damage – just a faulty lock. Since being home, the 31-year-old said she has contacted the Discount Holidays © holiday park numerous times for a refund and has not yet had a response.

Ms Morris said: ”Then we noticed everything else; black mould in the room, holes in the walls, dirt everywhere, ripped lino’

Speaking of the ordeal, Ms Morris said: ‘We got to our room to find first of all that there was only one bedroom, which had a bunk bed and a single bed in it.

‘Then we noticed everything else; black mould in the room, holes in the walls, dirt everywhere, ripped lino.

‘I went straight back to reception and they then at this point told me I had been downgraded.

‘They explained that they had 22 apartments closed off due to flooding and they were fully booked therefore could not move us and provide us with the accommodation we had paid for as advertised.

‘We had no spare money to go elsewhere so we were stuck and therefore had to stay.

‘I asked reception to refund the whole amount and we would go elsewhere, they said no that I would have to send an email. The sofa bed, which the couple slept on together, was reportedly lop-sided and had a large hole below it

‘I then asked about the difference in price – to which they said they could not do either.

‘The only thing they could offer to do was send a cleaner for the mould, and said we would need to sleep on the sofa bed in the lounge in regards to linen.

‘The bed was lop-sided and had a hole underneath.

‘At one point, Tommy knocked the drawers and we saw some mould.

‘We pulled them out further to have a look and I said to Jamie “what is that? Is that a teabag?”

‘It turned out to be a slug and reception said they would send a cleaner, but they didn’t – so I ended up getting rid of it myself.

‘It is disgusting and the park is a mess, when I spoke to the maintenance man regarding the two-bed opposite, I was horrified because he told me the only thing wrong with the room was the lock.

‘It’s just not right to pay for something and be put somewhere like that.’
