Manchester United arrive at airport for pre-season tour

United1 players have arrived at Manchester Airport ahead of their flight to China for a week-long pre-season tour.

Jose Mourinho, modelling the new United suit, arrived with his 25 players and coaching staff as preparations intensified ahead of the start of the new season. United will play Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on Friday before they take on Pep Guardiola’s City three days later in Beijing. United will then fly back to Europe ahead of the friendly with Galatasaray on July 30 and then host Everton in Wayne Rooney’s testimonial on August 3. United’s pre-season ends with the Community Shield at Wembley. Three of Mourinho’s 25-man squad will play no part in China.

Rooney, Chris Smalling and Marcus Rashford will build up their match fitness after recently returning from holiday, having played for England at Euro 2016. David de Gea – whose Spain were eliminated from the Euros on the same day as England – is in the squad, as well as Argentine duo Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero.

Joel Pereira, who replaced Sam Johnstone at Wigan, left Manchester on Monday to link up with the Portugal squad ahead of the Olympics next month.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has suffered a groin strain2 but could still feature during pre-season. Tyler Blackett has been demoted following Marcos Rojo’s return. The Hulme-born defender is expected to leave United this summer, as is Guillermo Varela, who could join Eintracht Frankfurt3.

In a brief video uploaded onto his Instagram6 page, Mourinho was filmed collecting his travel bags ahead of leaving United’s training base for their pre-season tour of China. Mourinho’s office includes a tactics board, a picture of Real Madrid players giving him the bumps after their 2011 Copa del Rey win over Barcelona and what appears to be a canvas of the Portuguese lifting the Champions League trophy with Portugal in 2004.

“China!!!!!here we go!!!!” Mourinho wrote in the caption accompanying the picture.

United are set to listen to offers for Will Keane8 despite the striker’s inclusion in the party for the pre-season tour of China. The 23-year-old scored the first goal of Jose Mourinho’s reign during the 2-0 win over Wigan on Saturday to earn a place in the squad to play Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai and Manchester City in Beijing.

But United are understood to be willing to let him leave this summer with his first-team prospects limited by the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the emergence of Marcus Rashford. Keane could be joined in heading for the Old Trafford exit by James Wilson, Tyler Blackett and Guillermo Varela, who all failed to make the cut for Mourinho’s squad to tour China.

All three played a part in Saturday’s win over Wigan at the DW Stadium with Wilson – who spent the second half of last season on loan at Brighton – starting the game at centre forward.
