Is This The Nicest Looking Kit In The Olympic Road Race?

The Danish men s Olympic road race1 kit has been revealed and there s a strong chance that it will be the best kit on display during Saturday s event. Jakob Fuglsang posted a photo of himself decked out in the red, white and black kit on Instagram and Twitter. Much better than the use of a nation s flag or some over elaborate and hard to fathom coat of arms, the Danish kit is clear and clean.

Fuglsang will be joined by Christopher Juul Jensen and Chris Anker Sorensen. It would be a huge outside bet to think we ll see one of those three with their hands in the air going over the finish line first but they ll certainly look the part for the duration of the race. The winner is expected to instead come from one of the big name favourites3 such as Vincenzo Nibali (Italy), Alejandro Valverde (Spain) or Chris Froome (Britain).

The routes to success

In 2015, UK ferry operators carried 8.61 million cars up 1.3 per cent on the previous year. Overall passenger figures on 75 ferry routes hit 38.9 million.

The year would have been even better had there not been problems on the key Calais-Dover route last summer following the closure from July of MyFerrylink. Domestic routes forged ahead, recording their best passenger figures since 2011, with other sectors such as the Western Channel and Holland also recording strong increases in both car and passenger traffic. Promotional offers on ferry routes to Ireland (above), the Channel Islands and in the UK the Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly and Scottish islands, will be announced by Discover Ferries

Ferry routes to the Isle of Wight, Isles of Scilly, Isle of Man, Channel Isles and Scottish Islands were the top-performing sector, with total cars carried up 4.5 per cent to 3.69 million, and passengers up to 16 million.

North Sea ferry routes run by Stena, DFDS and P&O Ferries increased the number of cars carried to 445,000 in 2015, and carried 2.18 million passengers.

The 2015 figures show the ferry industry is resilient and adaptable, said Discover Ferries director Bill Gibbons.

Domestic ferry routes carried nearly 16 million passengers, their best year since 2011. And despite the summer issues at Calais last year, P&O Ferries and DFDS adapted their capacity and sailings to great effect.

Ferries also took other challenges in their stride in 2015, including the Government s introduction of exit checks and significant investment required by new fuel emissions regulations. With ferry routes to northern Spain, Holland, France via the Western Channel, the Isle Of Wight and Isles of Scilly all showing healthy passenger gains, it demonstrates the broad reach and appeal of the ferry industry and how operators can work together in challenging times.

We expect a further surge in customer interest when the industry comes together again to promote National Ferry Fortnight with offers to appeal to ferry first timers, and those trying a new ferry route with their car for the first time.

With this service, you won’t want to get off!

There is an outstanding range of ferry services available. Here s your guide to what they offer…

Travel Money Comparison: Brexit And The Best Euro And Dollar Exchange Rates For Holiday Cash

As detailed previously in the recent travel money comparison1 themed news, currency exchange rates can be very volatile, changing daily with potentially dramatic price swings. Here is an example using the Pound Sterling to Euro (GBP/EUR) exchange rate as a guide:

Over the past month the GBP to EUR exchange rate was trending within the range of 1.2615 to 1.3269. Jump straight to the best Discount Holidays © holiday money rates table2. Here are the latest inter-bank fx exchange rates (NB not travel money as they add a varying margin) for your reference:

On Friday the Euro to British Pound exchange rate (EUR/GBP) converts at 0.774
3

The GBP to EUR exchange rate converts at 1.292 today. At time of writing the pound to us dollar exchange rate is quoted at 1.416.

At time of writing the pound to australian dollar exchange rate is quoted at 1.922. FX markets see the pound vs new zealand dollar exchange rate converting at 2.095.

Please note: the FX rates above, updated 4th Mar 2016, will have a commission applied by your typical high street bank. Currency brokers specialise in these type of foreign currency transactions and can save you up to 5% on international payments4 compared to the banks.

Since the fourth-quarter of 2015 the British Pound has struggled versus all the major currencies including the Euro, US Dollar and Australian Dollar. This is predominantly a response to political uncertainty regarding the forthcoming EU referendum.

Although many analysts speculate, the truth is that very little is known as to the true impact of a Brexit , whether positive or negative. This air of uncertainty presents a difficult environment for investors, with the UK asset enduring marked price swings in response to any mention of a Brexit in the media. An example of the negative impact uncertainty is having on the UK asset can be seen in the GBP/USD exchange rate which has dropped from a high of 1.4030 to a low of 1.3839 in the past week alone.

However, over the past week the UK Pound has made a slow recovery thanks to consolidative trading. Analysts are questioning the extent of the Sterling decline, fearing that the depreciation was too steep and too fast. However, it is worth noting that GBP is still holding a comparatively weak position, especially versus the US Dollar, with EU referendum uncertainty presenting further downside risks. So how does a weaker Pound affect your travel money?

Say you wanted 500 spending money when visiting the United States of America.

500 converted into Dollars at the current rate, approximately 1.39, would equate to $695. Just a month ago the GBP/USD exchange rate was trading at 1.46 which would have given you $730. The exchange rate value has a greater impact the more travel money you wish to transfer.

Will Pound Sterling (GBP) Exchange Rates Resume Depreciation

As explained above, this week has seen the British Pound recover some of its losses thanks to corrective trading. The question is, will this continue? Most analysts think not. With EU referendum uncertainty still at the forefront of trader focus, there is a very high likelihood that the Pound will negatively react to increased fears as we draw closer to the June 23rd vote.

The Bank of England (BoE) also pressured Sterling after Governor Mark Carney warned that the central bank has plenty of room to loosen policy should EU uncertainty continue to hurt the Pound. Predicting how Pound Sterling exchange rates will perform is notably more difficult in the current economic environment, but downside pressures are enough to suggest that GBP will fall again ahead of the referendum vote.

Pound Sterling to Euro Discount Holidays © Holiday Money Exchange Rate Compared

As of 2nd March 2016, these are the best providers to buy Euro s:

  • Best Foreign Exchange 500 euros costs 397.36 + 4.95 delivery Can collect
  • ICE 500 euros costs 399.29 + 4.75 delivery Can collect.
  • Travel FX 500 euros costs 398.55 + 4.75 delivery No collection possible.
  • TEG 500 euros costs 402.46 + 4.90 delivery Can collect
  • Griffin Financial 500 euros costs 395.26 + 5 delivery No collection possible.

So When Should You Take a Discount Holidays © Holiday Based on the Best Exchange Rates in 2016?

Given the uncertainty regarding Pound Sterling outlook, there is no good time to take a Discount Holidays © holiday at present. Of course this should not stop you from taking a holiday, but the timing of when you purchase GBP will be very important. For example there is every chance that the Pound could fall further the closer we get to the referendum vote, so timing a Discount Holidays © holiday around key events is a must. Unquestionably the most significant economic event of 2016 will be the UK referendum.

Timing a Discount Holidays © holiday based on the outcome would be a gamble, given that opinion polls are often well off the mark. If you went on Discount Holidays © holiday a week before the referendum your Pound is unlikely to get you a decent return. However, if you wait until after the referendum there is every chance that the Pound will plunge lower if the UK votes to leave the EU. Even if you are planning to Discount Holidays © holiday later in the year, now may be as good a time as any to purchase your travel money. Major economic events notwithstanding, it is always worth consulting an economic colander before planning a trip abroad. Any Bank of England (BoE) policy meeting, or speech from a BoE official, usually coincides with Sterling movement. If the BoE opted to ease monetary policy in response to the damage political uncertainty has caused, for example, the Pound s value would decline massively.

Important data such as consumer prices (inflation) or gross domestic product (growth) usually has a strong impact on GBP volatility. With that said, however, domestic data is likely to be less impactful with political uncertainty dominating trader focus.

Holidaying in the USA? Be Warned that the GBP/USD Exchange Rate is Comparatively Weak.

Although the GBP/USD has recovered some of its losses to move away from the 9-year low hit last week, the UK asset continues to hold a weak position versus its US counterpart. It is worth noting, however, that the US Dollar outlook is also relatively negative. Analysts predict that the Federal Reserve will look to delay tightening policy in the current global economic environment, with emerging markets leading the global economic slowdown.

China s domestic woes have had a far-reaching impact, with Federal Reserve policymakers reluctant to widen divergence between the world s economic powerhouses. Over the past month the Pound Sterling to US Dollar (GBP/USD) exchange rate dropped from a high of 1.4650 to 1.3839. Once again, if you had 500 to spend at the monthly high of 1.4650 you would get $732.50, but at the low of 1.3839 you would only get $691.95.

As a side note, anyone who has holidayed in the tourist hotspots of the USA will know that 500 will not stretch very far, and the greater the amount of money you wish to transfer the greater the losses/gains on your exchange.

Pound, Euro and US Dollar Exchange Rates: Key Data/Events to Look Out For

There will be a number of economic events that could cause significant changes to exchange rates. As mentioned above, the EU referendum and the opinion polls leading up to the vote will likely have the greatest impact on the British Pound. Such is the importance of the vote that it will almost certainly impact the currency market as a whole, especially with the Euro set to be negatively affected in the event of a British exit.

In terms of the Euro and US Dollar, any central bank policy meetings or speeches from central bank officials usually coincides with volatility. March will be key for both the US and Europe with the Federal Reserve and European Central Bank (ECB) both due to make policy decisions. The ECB is widely expected to ease policy in March which would cause the Euro to decline. This could be an opportune time to exchange travel money if you wish to visit Europe. The accompanying speeches from Federal Reserve officials after their interest rate decision will also be of significance as they will hopefully give some indication as to Fed policy outlook.

GBP Weakness: Great for Investors, not for Travel Money

People going on Discount Holidays © holiday and people looking to make a profit have very different needs, so the current low GBP-USD, GBP-EUR exchange rates aren t ideal if you are planning on going on holiday. The good news is that investors are rushing to buy the Pound while it is cheap and this demand is lifting its value, so if this continues GBP might get you more EUR or USD for your money.

Brexit Already Impacting Discount Holidays © Holiday Money GBP-EUR, GBP-USD Exchange Rates

Even though the UK s EU referendum is still several months away, it is having a regular and significant impact upon GBP vs EUR and USD. Today is no exception, with news that 200 small business leaders have signed an open letter backing the UK leaving the European Union, while the head of the Stay campaign has been questioned over the validity of the data he uses to support his arguments.
