1,543 avail e-tourist visa

Summary: Ahmedabad: As many as 1,543 tourists availed e-tourist visa at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in January this year. NRG season, tourist festivals and several international business seminars and conclaves have ensured a steady flow of foreign tourists.Since the launch of the scheme, 4,963 tourists have availed e-tourist visa at the city airport in the last five months. Around 228 tourists availed the scheme in September followed by 560 in October, 777 in November and around 1,855 in December last year.The Ahmedabad airport has continued to get tourists availing e-tourist visa in large numbers since the launch of the scheme in September last year at the airport. In December 2015, around 30,038 FTAs were registered at the city airport.FTAs during January 2016 were 8.44 lakh as compared to FTAs of 7.91 lakh during January 2015 and 7.58 lakh during January 2014.There has been a growth of 6.8% in FTAs in January 2016. Maximum arrivals of tourists on e-tourist visa were from countries like the UK and US followed by Russia, France, Germany, Australia and Canada among others.Six other airports including Varanasi, Lucknow and Amritsar too had got e-tourist visa service approval along with Ahmedabad.But Ahmedabad airport has received maximum tourists among the new airports which have sought this service.According to the Union ministry of tourism, during the month of January 2016, a total of 88,162 tourists arrived on e-tourist visa as compared to 25,023 during the month of January 2015 across the country, registering a growth of 252.3%.This high growth may be attributed to introduction of e-tourist visa for 113 countries as against the earlier coverage of 43 countries.As many as 29,034 foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) were registered at Ahmedabad airport in January 2016 against 26, 307 FTAs in January 2015, registering a growth of 10.3%.
