Builder Completes £30m Hotel Scheme Ahead Of Schedule - Belfast Telegraph Crowne Plaza

A Co Tyrone property firm has completed two major hotel projects in Aberdeen in a deal worth close to 30m. McAleer & Rushe, based in Cookstown, finished the 165-bedroom Crowne Plaza ahead of schedule.

And the development was carried out well within a 16-month programme, allowing the hotel to open eight days early. The project comes after the completion of a 193-bedroom three-star Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Express Hotel in May.

Both hotels were built for the Dominvs Group, and are located close to the city’s airport. McAleer & Rushe contracts director Mark Diamond said: “We have really enjoyed working with Dominvs Group on both these projects.

“Their clarity of vision and collaborative approach help explain our team’s remarkable delivery achievements.”

The firm is currently working on another hotel project for the same group. The 306-bedroom Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn in central Manchester is due to be completed in March next year. The success of the construction firm in Great Britain comes after it announced a hat-trick of contracts worth more than 80m in June. McAleer & Rushe was selected for a 27m contract by hotel giant Whitbread to build a 380-bedroom Hub by Premier Inn at King’s Cross in London.

And the overall group has announced profits of 1.7m on turnover of 68.4m for the 18 months to September 2014. The Kings Cross hotel will be Whitbread’s largest development in the UK. Meanwhile, Taylor Wimpey, one of the UK’s largest residential developers, awarded McAleer & Rushe a 37m contract to build 91 apartments at Westminster Quarter in the second phase of the development.

McAleer & Rushe, which has a workforce of around 85, has also announced a handful of major building projects in the heart of Belfast city centre. In May it announced two student housing developments, bringing more than 1,200 new rooms to the city. The plans are for a 840-room scheme on College Avenue and a 476-room building on McClintock Street, which will involve the demolition of the former Belfast Metropolitan College building facing Blackstaff Square.

It’s also behind a new-build at Clarendon House, which was bought by Belfast City Council for 24.7m, with plans to knock it down and build a new 100,000 sq ft office complex.

McAleer & Rushe also lodged plans to overhaul the former Ewarts Warehouse.
