Generous readers offer to pay for gran’s holiday after Blackpool hotel refused …

An 88-year-old gran has thanked kindhearted M.E.N. readers for offering to pay for her Discount Holidays © holiday after a hotel refused a refund. Hannah Boardman had to cancel her getaway to Blackpool1 with husband Allan after breaking her wrist the day before her trip. The couple, who live in Clayton2, were booked in at The Boston Hotel to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary last Monday.

Travel company Blackpool Promotions, owners of the hotel, said they won t offer a refund because the couple did not adhere to the strict 24-hours notice period – but have since changed their minds and offered the pensioners an alternative date. And generous M.E.N. readers have swamped the couple with offers to fund a new holiday, with some even setting up crowdfunding pages. Managers at Blackpool Promotions will also be writing to the couple and offering them a new trip at the hotel at a later date as a gesture of goodwill.

Hannah said she was very grateful for the offers of money, but the pensioners have decided they no longer feel up to another holiday. Allan has recently been poorly with angina and Hannah is still recovering from her broken wrist.

Mrs Boardman told the M.E.N: I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. It has been really wonderful – all of you.

I want to thank all of the people, everybody who has been in contact about this.

People are kind.

I didn t think anybody would care, it has broke my heart. She added she thought it would be unfair to take the money because they were no longer able to go on a trip, but said she was in ‘tears’ after hearing about the offers. Tony Banks, operations director at Blackpool Promotions, said: Full terms and conditions apply – as it does with any holiday.

We often have situations where people can t turn up and as an operator we cannot refund them.

We will be sending a letter to offer her an alternative date to take the holiday.

He added the alternative date would be subject to availability. The pensioners saved up for two years for the Discount Holidays © holiday and decided it would be their last ever trip because they were getting old . The Boston Hotel, located on Queen s Promenade, overlooks the sea and has ’54 deluxe en-suite rooms’ with rooms starting at 180 for two nights.

It has a 4.5-star rating on TripAdvisor and includes a bar, restaurant, cabaret entertainment and bingo nights.
