Holiday Inn to temporarily close for extensive $9M renovation

Indianapolis Operator of the Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Terre Haute, Indianapolis based General Hotels Corporation, today announces its intent to temporarily close the Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Terre Haute to expedite a $9 million renovation with plans to reopen the property as a new 118-room Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn in about 8 months.

Construction demolition is expected to cause major guest displacement and service challenges necessitating the temporary closure. The hotel s 69 employees were notified today, in compliance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, to provide sufficient time to prepare for the transition. While the last day of hotel operation is yet to be determined, the organization will begin reaching out to area businesses to coordinate and host job fairs in an effort to assist hotel associates in securing alternate employment while the hotel is under renovation.

Though our original plan called for renovating the property in stages, it became clear that keeping the hotel open during a renovation of this scope would extend the project into a much longer period of time making it untenable for both guests and associates, said General Hotels Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Dora, Jr. My father and his brother opened the Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn in 1962 and it was the start of our company. We have enjoyed outstanding associate and customer support throughout the years and look forward to the future of Terre Haute with this substantial investment, continued Dora.

The transformational renovation includes keeping the hotel s original tower and indoor pool, redesigning the guest rooms, reconfiguring public spaces and making way for a nationally branded restaurant franchise yet to be determined. The building will receive a new exterior facade and roof along with updated mechanical and electrical systems. The work is expected to last approximately 8 months.
