A new ‘green tax1‘ is set to be introduced for those visiting some of Spain2‘s most popular islands in a bid to conserve their environments. According to the Express7, the tax will be charged daily at a rate of around ‘ 2 ( 1.50) per person each day. This means that a couple on two-week break would be facing extra charges of around 42, while a family of four will be hit with an extra 84 charge. Vice president of the islands’ coalition government, Biel Barcelo, said: “It will be applied with or without the help of the Spanish state.

It’s thought that the tax won’t just affect tourists but will also be applied to those living on the islands, which are among the most popular Discount Holidays © holiday destinations for British tourists. In 2013 nearly one in three of us spent our holidays there, the Daily Mail10 reports. A spokesman for the Association of British Travel Agents11 told the Express: “It’s important the islands preserve their environment but discouraging tourists could be a very unwelcome consequence.”
