Trek Factory Racing1 youngster Danny van Poppel will sign for Team Sky2 at the end of the season, according to Dutch press, as the British squad look to bolster their Classics lineup. The 22-year-old has reportedly been courted by a number of teams, including LottoNL-Jumbo and Giant-Alpecin, but has instead chosen Sky as his next destination, per AD.nl.3

Van Poppel joined Trek in 2014 from the folding Vacansoleil4 alongside brother Boy, who is also out of contract this year. Danny, the younger sibling, has enjoyed a strong 2015 season, culminating with a stage win at the Vuelta a Espa a5.

Should he sign for Sky, van Poppel will reportedly be seen as a man to target the sprint Classics, where Sky have enjoyed relatively little success in their six-year tenure.

Wout Poels, winner of stage five of the 2015 Tour of Britain6, is currently the lone Dutchman in the Sky squad, although directeur sportif Servais Knaven also hails from the Netherlands. So far Team Sky have only announced one signing for 2016, with young Brit Alex Peters7 joining in the from SEG Racing. The team have also been linked with the likes of Mikel Landa8 and reigning world champion Michal Kwiatkowski9.
