Dot’s Holiday Inn to add 60 new rooms

The 114-room Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Express near South Bay Center in Dorchester is set for an expansion with plans to build a five-story, 60-room addition. The 37,325-square-foot expansion would provide additional economy lodging options in Boston, in stark contrast to most hotel projects proposed in Boston in recent years, owner Jiten Hotel Management Inc. said in project plans filed with the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

The proposed project will also visually improve an important gateway location on the approach to and from the city of Boston along the Southeast Expressway, the Brockton company said. The expansion is slated for the site of a demolished Bickford s restaurant that is now serving as a parking lot at the southern end of South Bay Center. It calls for an additional 2,140 square feet of meeting space and a 2,360-square-foot expansion of the hotel s 700-square-foot breakfast/lounge area.

The number of parking spaces would increase to 181 from 162.

Jiten owns and operates nine hotels in Massachusetts, including the adjacent Courtyard by Marriott in South Bay, and four in New Hampshire, Connecticut and New York.
