16, 2016. HASBROUCK HEIGHTS A two-alarm fire at the Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn early Tuesday morning is believed to have started in a room s heating/air conditioning unit, the fire chief said. The blaze is believed to be accidental, Fire Chief Pat Hayes said. It was reported around 1 a.m. and under control within a half hour. The fire started in room 132 of the hotel, which is on Route 17 south, Hayes said. A smoke alarm went off and hotel security found the room ablaze.

Police evacuated the building; one cop was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for smoke inhalation. The room was unoccupied at the time, Hayes said. The hotel reopened Tuesday morning.

About 50 firefighters from Hasbrouck Heights, Wallington, Wood-Ridge, Lodi and Moonachie responded.
