New agents join the Co-operative Travel Consortium

The Midcounties Co-operative Travel has welcomed two new members to The Co-operative Travel Consortium, taking the total number of businesses in the UK s largest independent travel co-operative to 48. New member The Travel Boutique has received support to open and develop its first high street branch in Billericay, Essex. Also joining is Gloucester s KTz Travel, which opened its doors in early May and is already looking to expand its team to meet local demand.

Managing director and owner of The Travel Boutique, Janette Bell, has 20 years experience in the travel industry. She was impressed with the support and training she received from The Co-operative Travel Consortium when running her online travel agency Amathus Holidays a luxury tour operator selling B2C operated with her business partner Peter Healey. Janette made the decision to expand her business and open a high street branch. After spotting a gap in the market for tailored and luxury holidays in Essex, Janette developed the concept of The Travel Boutique. To celebrate the opening of the branch, Janette held a launch party on Saturday 21 May, attended by Essex-born X Factor finalist Lauren Platt. Alongside canap s and Champagne, guests and tour operators will be able to bid for a luxury Discount Holidays © holiday to Greece. All proceeds will be donated to the Hamelin Trust, which supports individuals with disabilities and their carers. KTz Travel, based in Gloucester, opened in early May and is run by Katie Hamlin, who has over 15 years experience in the travel sector. KTz Travel offers a wide range of Discount Holidays © holiday packages, as well as specialising in group and honeymoon bookings.

Katie previously worked for The Midcounties Co-operative Travel branch in Gloucester and was keen to stay connected to the Society after setting up her own business by joining the Consortium, as well as to receive access to valuable suppliers and tour operators. Alison Holmes, head of consortium, said: The Co-operative Travel Consortium has been gaining real momentum among experienced travel professionals. In 2015 alone we had 11 businesses join us, and we re looking forward to welcoming new members throughout 2016.
