Black Friday travel deals 2018: the best offers to look out for and where to go

Black Friday[1] is steaming towards us, and if you’re looking to book a holiday, hold fast until November 23, as the travel industry has embraced the concept, with everyone from hotel chains to airlines and tour operators offering seriously good deals. Love it or hate it, this is one of the best times to book a trip. Thanks to the GDPR regulations[2], you’ll probably have slipped off a host of mailing lists from travel companies this year.

Not to worry; because we’ll be compiling a list of the best deals this year. Companies are playing their cards close to their chests at the moment, but last year, Air New Zealand – Black Friday regulars – offered 100 fares from Heathrow to Los Angeles for GBP175, and another 100 from Heathrow to Auckland for GBP399. EasyJet[3] lopped 30% off prices on 500,000 seats, and Thompson Hotels had half price suites and 30% off rooms. We tracked holidays from GBP542pp for 11 days in Florida, to GBP287 for flights to Bangkok.

Even Gatwick offered 25% off parking last year. Black Friday travel deals inspire wanderlust like few other things, but take it from someone who’s booked in a flurry of excitement and regretted it afterwards (pro tip: check your Discount Holidays © holiday allowance) – the best way to approach it is by drafting a few trips you’d like to take, along with rough dates. Keep an eye on this page – we’ll be adding good-looking deals as we get them in – so if a deal pops up that you like the look of, start pencilling them in before Black Friday.

You can, of course, always cancel your time off.

Bag a bargain to Los Angeles

Air New Zealand have already set up their Black Friday page[4], promising cut-price deals that include a special Los Angeles economy fare. Tickets are sold on a first come first serve basis, so be prepared to act quickly.

Fly to North America this winter for as little as GBP140

Last year, WOW air[5] offered flash sales on seats as part of its “Purple Friday” campaign. They are yet to announce special Black Friday fares but are currently offering great value deals to cities in the US and Canada on their site, although be aware of stopovers in Reykjavik.

These deals are mainly for wintery escapes although Boston, Chicago, Detroit and New York are looking good up until March 2019. What are the routes? London Gatwick to Boston, Chicago, Detroit, New York (Newark Liberty International) Pittsburgh, St Louis, Washington, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

Fly from GBP20 with Ryanair

Ryanair are planning Black Friday fare[6] discounts that will stretch through until Cyber Monday[7]. Last year’s sale included 20% off tickets and flights starting at GBP20, so there is high hopes for another spectacular seat sale this year.

Catch the end of their current flash sale[8] and snap up tickets for European city breaks from November until March, with fares going for as little as GBP9.78 from UK airports. Factoring in baggage costs with Ryanair is a must though, as hidden costs can add considerably to your journey. From 1 November, Ryanair is changing its hand-luggage rules: customers will only be able take one small carry-on bag (40x20x25cm) on the plane for free, which must be able to fit under the seat in front.
