Consider a mini cruise

Whether you’re considering a day trip or overnight stay, a mini cruise can be an easy and budget-friendly way to go exploring Amsterdam. It will be an early start, but you’ll have plenty of time to explore the Christmas markets as well as the top attractions. DFDS Seaways is a good source for cheap Amsterdam mini cruises[10], which depart from Newcastle.

Meanwhile, P&O Ferries[11] also offer short sailings from Hull.

Coach holidays and day trips

Luxury coach companies including Shearings[12], Leger[13] and National Holidays[14] offer dedicated Christmas market itineraries, some of which include stops at various European Christmas markets, Amsterdam included. If you’re short on time, it’s worth considering a day trip with a coach journey – it will be a long day, but you’ll have hours to while away in the city and you can always sleep on the journey home!

UK alternatives

If you don’t have the annual leave/spare weekend for a trip abroad, or simply can’t find a deal for the dates you wanted to visit, that doesn’t mean you can’t join in on the fun. The UK is filled with some spectacular Christmas markets[15] that you won’t want to miss, where you’ll find plenty of entertainment, arts and crafts stalls, mulled wine stands and ice rinks.

An easy way to get in on the festivities!
