Retro amusement arcade bar secures license to open until 1am in Lace Market

Retro amusement arcade bar Penny Lane has been granted a license to remain open until 1am when it opens in Nottingham's Fletcher Gate later this month. The themed venue will run as a bar and kitchen as well as offering seaside arcades and amusement machines, with 50 jobs[1] being created at the centre. Penny Lane's owner, Panegyric Limited, worked with specialist Walaiti Rathore, of Licensing Law Consultancy, to obtain the license as the centre is in the city council's[2] saturation zone.

The zone was introduced in 2005 to control the number of licensed premises in Nottingham - it was set up to tackle crime and disorder. Mr Rathore said: "Obtaining a new premises licence for later hours and without the more restrictive conditions is very challenging for a venue of this size in the heart of the Saturation Zone.

"However, these operators have a proven track record and the proposed concept was designed to add further diversity to both the city's day and night time offering." Panegyric Limited is owned by the operators of venues including The Hockley Arts Club and Das Kino.

The latest concept is inspired by seaside family holiday destinations like Blackpool and Brighton Pier. The menu at the new venue will include "speciality cocktails" as well as food and drinks.

Operations director of Penny Lane, Michael Johnson, said: "Penny Lane will be our flagship venue and will feature some of our most exciting and adventurous ideas yet. "Nottingham is such a vibrant city, known for its artistic flare and independent scene, so it was really important that we created something different with a unique interactive element - Penny Lane is just that.

"We are really excited to open up the venue during the daytime too, which will be suitable for families and children looking to have a go on the games and relax with some casual food and drink." Penny Lane will open to the public on Friday, April 26. Get the most important news straight in your inbox before 9am every day - sign up to Nottinghamshire Live's newsletter.
