Bartender needed for floating pub just a mile off the Jamaican coast

A holiday firm is offering the job of a lifetime pouring pints and mixing cocktails on a floating bar just a mile off the sunshine coast of Jamaica. Virgin Holidays wants a bartender to work at Floyd's Pelican Bar in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. The bar, regularly cited as one of the best in the world, is only accessible by boat.

It was opened by Floyd Forbes in 2001 and since then has become a mecca for locals and tourists alike - keeping Floyd busy and preventing him from taking a break for years, reports BirminghamLive[1]. Now one lucky bar worker will be swept away to paradise to serve up Pina Coladas and rum punches this summer.

But applicants must be willing to commute to the job by boat or even paddle board as the unique floating venue is only accessible via the sea. The winner will also be in charge of keeping the tranquil vibe flowing by managing a playlist full of chilled beats.

In between getting to know tourists and locals alike over a cold beer, the bartender will also be expected to feed the resident pelicans who gave the bar it's name. Virgin say their perfect candidate will be...

  • Willing to commute by boat or paddle board, even when the weather is a little too beautiful to go to work
  • Eager to chat to locals and tourists alike and get to know them over a cool bottle of local beer
  • Manage the music playlist to ensure chilled beats are playing at all times
  • Throw the occasional fish to the resident pelicans, who gave the bar its name
  • Welcome passing boats looking for a refreshment with a smile
  • Able to multitask - it can be tricky to hand out beer and appreciate the glistening turquoise water at the same time.

By snapping up the job, the bar's owner Floyd will be able to take his first holiday in eight years. He built the bar in 2001 after being inspired by the scenic beauty he saw while fishing in the area.

Since then has been kept busy with both locals and tourists. The lucky applicant will take their position behind the bar this summer, letting Floyd put his feet up to enjoy time off. Supermodel turned publican, Jodie Kidd, who will be helping to judge the applications, commented: "I love being a pub landlady here in the UK, but if I had the opportunity to take the best of the job and do it all from an island paradise in the Caribbean, I wouldn't say no.

Holidays

"This is an incredible chance for anyone looking to combine the best job in the world with one of the best overseas destinations - and giving a local legend a well-deserved holiday - so what are you waiting for?"

Joe Thompson, Managing Director of Virgin Holidays, said: "We think the Caribbean is your playground - filled with so much fun and beauty to explore, from the white beach sands to the vibrant culture.
