Best things to do in Rhodes

1. Lindos Acropolis

If you only visit one landmark during your trip, make it the stunning ruins of this ancient citadel.

Wander around and you'll feel like you really have stepped back in time amidst the towering pillars and well-preserved steps. (Oh, and the steep cliff it sits on means you'll get some great ocean views). For a picturesque way to get there, take a boat trip from Rhodes Town to Lindos and make the most of the panoramics of the island on the way!

2. Rhodes Old Town

The medieval Old Town of Rhodes is the oldest inhabited medieval city in Europe, and it's quite something.

The towering walls look like something out of a film set, while it's difficult not to be enchanted by the cobbled streets and charming local boutiques and restaurants to be found. Make sure to check out the Street of the Knights, a 600m long cobbled road leading to the Palace of the Grand Master.

4. Valley of Butterflies

Tucked away in inland Rhodes, this breathtaking valley becomes home to thousands of butterflies once a year during the wet season (late May).

If you're in Rhodes around then it's well worth the trip for the spectacle, not to mention that the surrounding forest is pretty beautiful too. Oh, and as it is the wet season, if the rain gets a bit much you can always take shelter in the Museum of Natural History nearby.

The ruins of this castle make for a great day out, or even a beautiful walking destination thanks to the picturesque trails that lead here.

It's more of a place for couples or adults who are after a scenic stroll as there's not too much to see and do for kids, although there is a nearby cafe for those who want lunch with a view.
