British barman, 33, dies after being dragged out to sea while swimming in Spain

The family of a young bartender who tragically died when he was dragged to sea while on holiday in Spain is asking for help bringing him home. Ben Lloyd lost his life after getting into trouble in the tide off a beach at Benalmadena in the Costa del Sol, local media has reported. Emergency services were called to the coast at 8.20pm on Monday but the 33-year-old was reported dead at the scene.

The person who called for help said he had been "unable to pull himself out of the water".

His family described Ben as "an amazing man with the kindest of hearts" who "would do anything for anyone" and "lived his life to the full."

A crowdfunding page posted online by his sister, Gemma, has already raised more than GBP1,200 toward its GBP6,000 goal. The JustGiving page described her beloved brother as she appealed for help covering the costs of bringing him home.

It says: "As many of you may be aware my brother Ben Lloyd tragically died whilst on holiday in Spain on Monday 1st July at just 33 years old.

"Those who knew Ben knew he was an amazing man with the kindest of hearts, he would do anything for anyone. Ben lived his short life to the full and typically didn't take out travel insurance, which has now left us with huge costs to bring him home where he belongs.

"The flight alone to bring him home is costing GBP6000 this does not include any Spanish medical fees or funeral costs.

"We are all desperate for Ben to be home with his family and his friends so he can have the amazing send off he deserves!!"

Tributes from friends also poured in for the Harlow man following his tragic death, Essex Live reported.

Levi Ripley, one of Ben's good friends, said: "Ben was a gorgeous, kind, caring guy. Such a great loss. He would do anything for anyone.

I will miss him loads.

"We have had many great memories going out, having a laugh, getting drunk together!"

Ben is believed to be a bartender at the Lamb and Lion pub in Westcliff. He attended Harlow College.

"I still can't believe this has happened," another friend said.

"How will I not see you again, laugh with you again, annoy you again? Have our kid talks and bitch sessions?

"You were the fun one of us Benji.

I'm so glad I have 10 years worth of memories with you. I love you Ben Lloyd."

Maureen Brailsford Burrell added: "Rest in peace Ben Lloyd.

"The most kind-hearted, caring, loving, genuine and gentle person I have ever met.

"I am going to miss out little chats and cigarettes together.

"Gone too soon. My thoughts are with all your family and friends at this sad time.

"Fly high my dear friend.

Good night and God bless."

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Benalmadena, Spain."
