1 Weston-super-Mare

A popular seaside visit among Brummies, Weston-super-Mare sits on the Somerset coast and is home to one of the longest beaches in the UK.

Approximately 105 miles from Birmingham (around two hours journey time), there are endless activities here to provide a great day out for the whole family, including a water adventure play park and a theme park nearby. The promenade is perfect for strolling along or even cycling, and the town of Weston-super-Mare itself is only a short walk away, where you'll find numerous attractions including a helicopter museum, an aquarium, as well as rides and amusements.

As one of Britain's most loved holiday destinations, Blackpool offers enough entertainment for an entire weekend beach break. Approximately 125 miles from Birmingham, the iconic seaside resort takes just two hours by car.

While you're there, go for long walks along on the famous Golden Mile, enjoy the unique appeal of each of Blackpool's three piers, or journey to the Blackpool Pleasure Beach - full of theme park roller coasters, fairground rides, stalls and amusements.

3 Brean, Berrow and Burnham-on-Sea

Approximately 112 miles from Birmingham, there are eight beaches to enjoy in the Burnham area. The main award-winning beach at Burnham-on-Sea isn't safe to swim in all year round due to the strong currents, but the thriving seaside town benefits from a stunning coastline that is well known for its fine sandy beaches and unspoilt dunes, allowing for some superb walks. Brean Beach has a seven-mile stretch of sand and dunes, and Berrow South Beach boasts a six-mile stretch of sand and mudflats.

Both beaches are popular with dog walkers, horse riders and beach sports enthusiasts.

4 Rhyl

This Welsh seaside resort town is approximately 124 miles from Birmingham, taking just over two hours to reach by car. Developed as a resort in the 1880s, Rhyl benefits from miles of sandy beach, drawing decent crowds when the sun comes out. Donkey rides are a popular activity here during peak seasons, as well as the seafront amusement arcades and the large SeaQuarium.

The promenade is also packed with cafes and restaurants, in addition to the many shops and facilities within reach at Rhyl's town centre.

5 Aberystwyth

Approximately three hours' drive from Birmingham, Aberystwyth is a popular holiday resort on the west coast of Wales. The North Beach fronts the town, with a promenade that stretches for over a mile. The South Beach consists of a more sheltered sand and shingle beach and is the proud holder of a Seaside Award - a national honour given to beaches of the highest quality.

Surfing, windsurfing, kayaking and sailing are just some of the activities you can do here - once you're finished sunbathing, of course!
