The golf day participants Written By Steve Clark With live rugby action still on the back burner, and current holiday arrangements and other family social occasions looking uncertain in the short term because of Covid-19, the Committee at Widnes RUFC are already looking forward and planning for better times that lie ahead.

And one of those was The Wids sixth Annual Golf Day that took place at Widnes Golf Club recently. The event was held in memory of John Ratcliffe and Antony Morris with trophies competed for in their names.

This year, a record number of 68 participants took part in an event which grows with interest each year.

Fortunately, the weather chose to play its part and the day went smoothly starting with bacon butties and tea and coffee. After that, there was some excellent golf throughout the day on show before a sit-down meal and drinks to round off proceedings.

Awards on the day were - Longest drive: Paul Findlater, Nearest the pin: Danny Fallon, Anthony Morris Memorial Trophy Pairs: Gareth Moss and Paul Findlater and The John Ratcliffe Memorial Singles winner was Dave Cafferty with 43 points. Widnes were also taking the opportunity to promote some of the other great facilities that they have to offer. Heath Road in Widnes, Cheshire already has some of the best playing and changing room facilities around at their HQ, the Club but it also boasts some of the best social facilities in the area too.

That will be of particular interest to anyone who is looking forward to organise that very special family occasion which have been at a premium of late.

"The team here at Widnes RUFC, have hosted some amazing parties with plenty of happy and positive comments being received.   "Our Concert Suite underwent a major refurbishment in 2019, and to say it has been a huge success since then would be an understatement.

"Whilst the refurbishment has played a part in our growing success, another factor was we also have so much more to offer in our venue. "Firstly, the most important thing perhaps is to say that the Club is open and available to all, nothing is too much trouble for us and we have all one goal which is to make your night one to remember". Members are reminded that the Widnes RUFC Annual General Meeting is taking place at the Club tonight (August 20) starting at 8.00pm.
