Man ‘bit partner in Dundee hotel assault’

By Adam Hill,5 Sep 2015 6.00am

A man was arrested at a Dundee hotel after allegedly biting his partner and attacking a member of staff then threatening to kill three police officers. William Carmichael, 50, was detained after police were called to the Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Express on Dock Street. Eyewitnesses described seeing officers racing to the scene after reports of a disturbance taking place in one of the rooms.

Carmichael, from Paisley, was taken away and charged in connection with the alleged offences. A room in the hotel was cordoned off on Sunday while police investigated. Officers then returned on Monday morning to carry out further inquiries.

Carmichael faces a charge of assaulting his partner by lifting her and throwing her to the ground at the Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Express on Sunday. He is then accused of threatening to throw her out of a window, seizing her by the hair, dragging her by the body, attempting to butt her on the head and biting her lip, all to her injury. In a second charge, Carmichael is accused of assaulting a hotel employee by attempting to headbutt the staff member.

The charge states that Carmichael also behaved in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person fear or alarm, in that he shouted, swore and threatened his partner and threatened the employee with violence. He is further accused of, on the same day, when being taken to Dundee s police headquarters, behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm, in that he shouted, swore and threatened to kill three police constables. Carmichael, of Paisley s Blackwood Avenue, pleaded not guilty to all the charges during an appearance at Dundee Sheriff Court.

He will stand trial on January 7 next year with an intermediate diet on December 21 this year. He was released on bail meantime. Police confirmed they had sent one unit to the hotel on Sunday and arrested a 50-year-old male in connection with an alleged assault.

The Discount Holidays © Holiday Inn Express is one of Dundee s newest hotels, having opened as part of the redevelopment taking place on the city s Waterfront.

Staff at the hotel declined to comment when approached by the Tele.
